Night Vision Goggles

Night Vision Goggles

When we hear the words night vision goggles our mind automatically starts thinking about video games and action movies. However, in reality these goggles use real technology and operate on various scientific principles. They are most commonly used by law enforcement agencies and military organizations as well as search and rescue teams but are also available for civilians.

Night vision goggles enable us to see as far as two hundred feet on a cloudy dark moonless night. Night vision goggles make use of two methods for the purpose of enhancing our sight. The first one of them is thermal imaging and relates to capturing the heat of the object. The warmer an object is the brighter it will appear on the goggles. It can be used to look for humans and animals because rocks and other non-living creatures do not show up on the glasses making use of this technology.

The second one is known as image enhancement and relates to concentrating on small particles of light that are normally too low and small to be picked up by the human eye. Unlike thermal imaging this technology allows for easy identification of the objects. The green tint that we normally see in movies and video games is because of this technology. The screen is coated with phosphors so when an image passes through the lenses it glows. The phosphors are intentionally coated green because it is very easy for the human eye to identify and differentiate various shades of green
